TRENDS IN RESIDENTIAL DESIGN — OUTDOOR SPACES

07/10/2020

As staying in is the new going out, serene outdoor spaces like these designed by PBA are in greater demand. Clients place more emphasis on outdoor multi-functional areas, which can be used for relaxing, eating, playing and even working.

Top: This design features a trellis patio overlooking a picturesque pool, and is situated on a lush and very private .76 acres in a Baltimore university neighborhood. Photo by Whitney Wasson.

Middle: This design provides three distinct levels for entertaining. It features an outdoor kitchen with grill and pizza oven, a pool with a shallow end for lounging before it drops down to standing height, a fireplace with arched brick opening detail, and a private master bedroom patio. Photo by Vince Lupo.

Bottom: The most recent of multiple projects at a Baltimore County estate, was the creation of a conservatory and covered porch addition, which included the creation of a water feature focal point at the end of the axis of a loggia. This loggia also serves as a means of providing privacy for a new hot tub nestled against the house. Photo by Heidi Krauss.
