SEVERN RIVER REDO

The owner of a three-acre property on the Severn River asked Penza Bailey Architects for design assistance in updating their family retreat. PBA explored alternatives for renovating the existing structure (which was in need of extensive renovation), as well as razing the existing house and building anew. Since the existing house has sentimental and historical value, the decision was made to undertake a complete renovation, as well as create an addition to one side of the house. Also, box bay windows and wrap around porches were added to give the house a more intimate scale and to take advantage of the spectacular views. The focal point of the water side of the house is a curved, two-level porch which will eventually overlook an infinity edge swimming pool, which is planned for a second phase of construction.
