DOD - WALTER REED NATIONAL MILITARY MEDICAL CENTER

The Pharmacy/OBGYN Space Alignment project required renovation to 2,500 SF of Walter Reed National Military Medical Center’s main pharmacy department. The operational need to better accommodate pharmacy storage, processing, shipping/receiving, and management was the impetus behind the project. In addition, pharmacy transport near or across public circulation was an issue.

The primary challenges were two-fold: maintaining of the perimeter fire and smoke barrier around this scope area; and the relocation and reconfiguration of portions of the OBGYN department. Penza Bailey Architects provided an in-depth fire and egress code analysis of the entire floor to better understand the required limitations and available solutions created by the floor plan and space relocations and reconfigurations.
