AOC BAG HOUSE CAPITOL POWER PLANT

For the Architect of the Capitol, renovation is under way of the 29 year old “bag house”, part of the existing coal-fired US Capitol Power Plant. The project includes fully enclosing the top 1/3 of the structure with an acoustical screen wall and roof enclosure, consisting of manufactured acoustical panels attached to new and existing steel members, with removable roof panels for future equipment replacement. Other considerations include appropriate ventilation and lighting within the acoustical enclosure and OSHA and code compliant upgrades addressing inadequacies throughout the structure. Lighting shall be upgraded or added throughout. Solar panels were investigated as an alternate system to provide power to all lighting. Field acoustical studies and analysis was provided to determine optimum enclosure panel type and configuration to mitigate plant equipment generated noise levels.
